The day of your menses or periods is one that is somewhat painful and uncomfortable as well. Most of us would like to stay as light as we can on these days but we fail to do so. It is also important that you maintain hygiene well on these days as it can prevent germs from entering your system. So here are some ways to stay clean and light on your period days.

Hygiene

You have to stay clean always not just on these days but these days are special. The sanitary pads that you use must be clean always. Remember that the bleeding from your vagina can cause the area to be unclean and not maintaining the right level of hygiene could cause a terrible odor. Always wash your genitals with water only and not soap as soap could kill both good and bad bacteria.

Changing your sanitary napkins

Make sure that you switch your pads at least once every 4 hours so that the chances of bacteria breeding and entering your system causing infections is lowered. You also can avoid messiness by changing regularly.

What happens if you shower?

It was said back in the day that you should not shower on these days but that is not true. You can take shower and you must stay clean as much as possible.

Do you lose appetite?

Many women show different symptoms. Some faint, other throw up and lose appetite but you must eat during your menstruation as you are losing blood. If possible take in foods rich in iron and magnesium and Vitamin B like spinach, bananas and melon.
Many are used to drinking coffee to reduce the pain but it has been found that caffeine increases the pain so instead of coffee try and take in extra fruits.

Stay easy

Don’t wear tight clothes and use belts. Keep wearing breathable cotton clothing if possible or loose fitting and comfortable clothing. Keep your mind free of stress so that your discomfort is reduced.

How to identify an irregular cycle

Ideally your cycle should be spread out evenly every 28 days but sometimes, this may not be the case. In such instances keep an eye out. Reasons such as suffering from severe pain, flow being too heavy or too low than the average or not having your period on due dates can indicate that you’re having an irregular cycle, and that usually happens with either under or overweight people.

Another condition could cause this. It will have symptoms like under developed breasts, excessive body hair and blackening of the skin in the neck region. Usually the menstruation should be between 3 – 5 days but some people may have it for 1 -2 day or 6 – 7 days which you have to keep track of and speak to a doctor about. People may have symptoms like bloating, pain, vomiting, back and leg pain.
